I read Prof. Neels article in the February issue of C & OL about inviting overseas campers to camp in SA.
I have a different view on this, I have seen so many of them in the past and what I saw is the reason why I differ from him. The feeling that I get is that they have NO respect for our environment (this is Africa and it is wild) for them it is a cheap holiday.
I have seen were they have camped for more than one night using the plastic under sheets of tents on lovely green grass (and this accounts for even the SA campers). So many times they are in big groups and are very load and do not respect other campers. The environment does not belong to them and therefore they could not care.
On our recent trip back from Hartenbos we stopped over at Karoo N/Park, before sunset we went on a drive and came across an elderly couple taking photos of what was insight by getting out the car and walking around their vehicle. I stopped next to them and asked if they are aware that there are lions in the park, the answer was Not in this area, all I said was don’t be fooled.
Dit is hoekom ek van Prof. Neels verskil.
