A tropical stopover: Pongola caravan park

A canopy of tropical trees and a welcoming atmosphere make this park an enticing stopover spot in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

If you happen to be travelling in the northern parts of KwaZulu- Natal, Pongola Caravan Park is a laid-back sleepover option, particularly if you’re en route to the Kruger Park, Ponta do Ouro on the southern tip of Mozambique, Sodwana or Kosi Bay.
You may even choose to extend your stay a little, using the park as a base from which to explore the attractions of the surrounding area.
Close by is the Pongolapoort Dam, a famous tigerfishing destination. The dam is surrounded by an abundance of wildlife and birdlife. Interestingly, the uPhongolo area is home to southern Africa’s original game reserve, proclaimed by Paul Kruger way back in 1894! The South African War brought a prompt end to the reserve, but the Pongola Nature Reserve was reestablished in the same area in 1964.
Other must-visit game reserves in the vicinity are the Greater St Lucia Wetlands Park, Ithala, Hluhluwe and Mkuze.
The surrounding countryside has a rich agricultural heritage, with sugar, cotton and citrus the primary crops...
